Is the BBS search down? When I try to search something from splore, it either replies with the newest carts or a CANNOT CONTACT BBS at the bottom.

Shut down PICO, bring it back up. Don't load anything. Just hit "S" and enter and see if it works then.

Let me know if your "favorites" are appearing only as ID numbers because that's a special fix.
