This was made for the 2016 Big Awful Jam, theme: Games for Grandpa

The story is awfully depressing, but I adore finding all the little things you can do.

Does every item in the game have a use? I couldn't get all of them to do something (It looks the detergent doesn't do anything, and the watering can can be filled but not used). So far I have found... 5 things that deacrease the ennui bar.

Wow this is sad. i love it.

Connorses

Unfortunately we ran out of room in the cart before we could implement our original design, where every item would have a world specific use (except the rope) and every item/object combination would have text and maybe an effect.

If the code I wrote for item storage and collision detection was better we would have been to get a lot more in. Current things that work are (in spoilers):

Cultivator with Front Garden
Shears with Hedge
Jerry Can with Lawnmower
Watering Can with Lawnmower
Watering Can with Flowers on Table
Watering Can with Kitchen Sink
Empty Hands with Bed (from the position where you get out of it)
Empty Hands with mailbox
Kindling with fireplace
Fire poker with fireplace
TV Remote with TV (3 times)
Axe with log
Lawnmower with grass

with an obfuscated interaction of

If you light the fireplace you can use the poker on it to keep the fire alive, if the fire dies and you try to use the poker on it, it will increase you're Ennui.

We also had a lot of ideas that couldn't be implemented due to space reasons again, if people would like to know more I can make another post.
