This is my first time programming a game on Pico-8. I made a platforming game with Slenderman who keep following you.

You must find all the eight pages. You die by hitting or facing for too long Slenderman. To make Slenderman disappear, the player must face opposite side of him for 1,5 seconds.

Controls :
Z - Jump
X - View last page taken
Arrows - Move
Up and Down arrows - Enter door

creepy! Well done.

First off, for anyone that's stuck, try pressing the left/right arrow keys at the main menu until the graphics change. That will start you out in a different area near a page that you could very well have otherwise missed. Would've saved me over an hour's worth of time (or maybe even more) last night when I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find the exit and I was trying all these things; urgh! So, there's actually NINE pages to find, actually.

Was this patterned after the Marble Hornets video series? It seems that way with the distortion when Slender Man shows up (although that could've been taken from anything), plus I also saw an Operator sign and a Totheark mask (which I found to be very creepy!) that are from those videos. Also, were you influenced from the Atari 2600 game Escape from the MindMaster with the door animation? If not, it looks a lot like it.

Very well done, especially with the music changing with every one or two pages found.

@Vectorguy

Indeed there's nine pages to find, it was a surprise. Like in the Slender games, there's no real exit so you can just get hit by Slenderman after getting all the pages and win the game.

I was inspired by the game Slender: The Arrival. I was using my own creativity to make a 8-bit platform game based of Slender. I'm surprised for the references you made that I never heard about.

For the door animation, I was a bit inspired by the original Resident Evil and SwordQuest on Atari 2600.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you like my game. I hope it wasn't too difficult for you to find all the pages.

Ah, good one!

These are just coincidences; it happens. You can see what I mean about the door animation here at about the 2:40 mark of the MindMaster video.

Ahhh, didn't think of SwordQuest. Makes sense.

I hope it wasn't too difficult for you to find all the pages.

Just the one in the very long hallway! I didn't realize a third one was in that spot! (Not saying where to anyone else who hasn't beaten it yet.)

Only to make sure, you know you can go to a different area by moving to the edge of the map like this :

Yeah, I'd gone back the way I'd come and started games at different starting spots and all, playing through most variations and the like (the turbo one was hard to get to the end!).
