However I'm not sure what I have to do? How do I know I'm doing OK?



Yeah, looks very cool, but I'm kind of confused too =)

The goal is just to survive as many waves as you can. Each time you kill one of the enemies, they'll split into two smaller enemies down to a minimum size. Once you clear out all of the enemies, it spawns a new wave.

Enemies move randomly by default, but if you're out in the open (shown by the little eye in the corner) they'll target you directly.
