"From Rust To Ash" is roguelike auto battler where your items are your build. Fight, Loot, Scavenge. Arrange your items to benefit from each other, store items in your backpack for future synergies, scrap what you don't need to increase your health. Do all that you need to survive the encounters before you.

The game is designed to be completely played with a mouse, and aided by a keyboard. For Mobile and Handheld users, there is an option in the pause menu (Pause or P on Keyboard) that allows to change turn mouse mode off and allow the directional buttons / joystick to move the cursor, using the "X" button to simulate mouse clicks. On both Mouse/Keyboard and on Mobile/Handheld, the game uses the (Z) key or (O) button to open the inventory when possible.

If you liked the game, consider supporting me by purchasing a copy on https://lokistriker.itch.io/rust. The full version adds some additional items to the roster, as well as a couple of characters you get to pick from at the start of the game. Thank you for playing and I hope you like it!

I've been seeing snippets of gameplay in the discord and am excited that it's out! I read the tutorial and played one run (got a further than I expected) and enjoyed the simple strategy I managed to pull off. The polish is great, makes moving things around half the fun! I'll be playing more of this for sure.

Just played a second round as was thinking: what if we could move items around mid-battle? It would add a level of engagement and make me less tempted to just fast-forward through them. It'd be disadvantageous to keep swapping things unnecessarily because the timers would reset and slow you down, but wit would allow you to adjust to a battle accordingly and allow you to use your backpack as storage for backup tools for emergencies.

Hmmm, while I envision a game like that could be fun, it would necessitate a different balance all together. Maybe you are "equipping" turrets to a train as its moving while its getting attack by flying enemies, like aliens or helicopters. A train doesn't stop, so no turns in this game. It would be closer to that idea of "hot swapping". In my game, all encounters are fixed! so one can prepare ahead of time based on the drops available, thats how the player can adjust to the battles.

Another masterpiece by LokiStriker, and this time it is not a hardcore
bullet-hell SHMUP (which i am really to unskilled to enjoy).
I love the Mecha-theme, game mechanics and the top notch overall design.
One little thing i have to complain about is that there are a few typos
in the in-game instructions (yes, i do know my English is much worse).
Netherless, an absolute fantastic game for many hours to enjoy.

Very nice. Didn't know about the non-mouse option at first so I'll have to try that later tonight on my handheld. Was excited to see it but bummed to find it was mouse.
I did get to a point where I got a loot item and didn't have room for it in my top or bottom inventory and seemed I couldn't get rid of it...? I didn't figure out how to destroy an item I had in my hand (cursor). I tried clicking on the trash can with an item attached and it just placed it, didn't destroy it.
Is there any point where you're allowed to upgrade your inventory slots? Haven't played too far yet - haven't gotten to any "end" yet so maybe it's a reward.
Gonna keep coming back to this one for a long while me thinks :)

Oh! So in the page 4 of "How to play" (inside the game menu) there is a section on scrapping items. By pressing the "trashcan" button, you enter the "scrapping" mode. Once on it, you can hover an item and hold click to start scrapping it. Once its done, the item is destroyed and you upgrade your HP by 5 times the rank of the item. Hope this helps!

I figured out the trash button before reading the instructions, but I had the same thought process as morningtoast. I think it would have been more intuitive to also allow items held over the trash to be scrapped.
It would also be nice to have a have a temporary slot above the trash can, rather then the can itself being a temporary space for items AND a scrapping mode toggle.
Finally, I didn’t realize I could upgrade equipment until after my first embarrasing defeat, then reading the instructions looking for tips. It would be nice to have some visual indicator when a held item can be combined with another... There is, now that I think of it, but only when it's hovering over the other item. Maybe have that indication on just by holding a compatible item?

Yes...what Verb said about the free space to hold something if you can't drag-to-trash. I understood how to switch to fire and then burn something...but my scenario was I chose a loot item, it was with my cursor, but had no room in inventory to place it. If I dropped it outside of inventory, it wouldn't let me burn it with the fire.
I do think the hover-item-over-trashcan might be more intuitive and you could still have the countdown bar. Food for thought for later versions :)

There was a decision over making the scrapping be a "held" process rather than a drag and drop. Mainly cause I wanted the deletion to be 100% committed, and not prone to unintended actions.
That being said, definitely food for thought! Im tentatively considering doing another bigger version of the game, so im looking into what people give me as feedback as a way to better improve either the current version or as ideas for a possible follow-up.
@Coko, does it do it on this version in Lexaloffle? I thought I programed it to remember...

I thought I had it 😖
Also after screenshooting for some reason joystick mode didn’t show a mouse pointer anymore had to do touchscreen (Im on an ipad mini)
The joystick not remembering is in the BBS just as this screenshot
