For a smoother demake, better refer to the vanilla, Win98 version of Tower of the Sorcerer through the author's website (or also browse some videos relevant, since it works only on Windows 98 and in Japanese, so may be tricky to get ahold).
That version contains not only some textures on items (like a wand instead of a book, orb instead of dynamite), nuances in dialog, usages of some items, endings, but also with some wise shortcuts (secret passageways in F36, obtaining Holy Sword without pickaxes or teleports, which might be a grind in modern version) compared with the known re-written version you are referring.
