Controls

Since this is a basic shmup, it's only fitting the controls are as basic as as it gets.
Arrows keys (up, down, left, right) move you about the screen, and holding down X continuously fires.
Simple as that.

Rules

Kill the enemies to progress through the fight as it adds more and more enemies to the screen.
Once you reach the last stage, you need to defeat the Big Boss Lad before your health bar reaches zero.

Behind The Scenes

This is my first ever game of any sort on any engine. I've never coded anything before (so if you wanna see a bunch of horrible inefficient code, treat yourself.) But I decided to give gamedev a go after a friend mentioned it's not that difficult.

Always been fascinated with the idea of making games since first enjoying games on the SEGA Megadrive back in the 90s (roughly speaking, can't quite remember my first gaming experience) and I've mostly created music for people before, including for indie games so, thought I'd give it a good try.

As a result of not knowing much I did a lot on the fly and by following Lazy Devs' Youtube tutorial series on basic shmup's that inspired me to complete this.

Originally the plan was to have this as an unwinnable game where the goal was just to survive as long as possible and score as high as possible. But I thought it only fair to add the idea of beating the boss but as a result the best score final screen doesn't make a lot of sense as to what you should be aiming for.

Thus I feel like this is a good starting point to learn from and may update it with newer versions that say include an endless mode and a victory mode to give those ways of doing things.
Before adding a way to win the best I did was about 3.3 millino, 6 mins 6 secs, and 291 kills.
