Greedy Snake

This is my first game project in Pico-8! In fact, it's my first project ever as a game dev!

With no coding experience, I took the Pico-8 course from SpaceCatDev and this was the "final project".

[8x8]

UPDATE -- April 25, 2025

Added a couple more levels and some QOL things such as deaths and playtime counters and more.
Also, the enemies now are officially tomatoes XD

This is a cool project and a good start! It was a great idea to start with Pico8... I started with Tic80 myself.

I think you should look up what "coyote time" is, because the character falls off the edge too soon. Also it's challenging but a little harsh, maybe the gravity is too high?

Thank you for your feedback @PlayMek!
I'll look it up :D

Hey @PlayMek, turns out you were right!
Coyote time is great and it even improved the gameplay experience, so I didn't even had to mess with gravity.
By the way, I've added a couple of new levels, including a final boss with some random directions, so it can be a bit frustrating if you're speedrunning, but I think it's part of the fun! ahahaha

Thank you and I hope you enjoy!

The coyote time is certainly an improvement! I'm impressed you added it so seemingly easily

I think I realised my problem with the gravity: it's constant, when you'd ideally want it to increase with time... I'd recommend having a look at this https://gmtk.itch.io/platformer-toolkit

You shouldn't try adding all these tips to your game in one go, but maybe if you make another platformer, you could try adding a few of these...

I like the boss! It's cool and I like your art! Perhaps look up how to draw a tileset if you want to make it look instantly better too!

Nice game!It took me 10 minutes to finish the whole game.

Thank you @PlayMek! I really appreciate it :) Your feedback is really useful. I will definitely use the Platformer Toolkit in upcoming projects, it seems amazingly helpful!

@wzd1pc I’m glad you liked it! Seeing people playing my first game really makes me happy :)
