REBOUND!
How do I describe Rebound? It came to me in a dream... Kind of like Breakout, but the cells move; kind of like Bust-A-Move, but you don't have to match colors. It's mostly like your average, typical shooter, but backwards.
HOW TO PLAY
Change the angle of your shots with the left and right arrow keys. Fire your shots with the X key. Shoot all the targets to clear the screen and advance to the next wave. Clear 5 waves to advance to the next Round. Clear all 6 Rounds to win!
Round 1: targets move half speed.
Round 2: targets move full speed.
Round 3: targets don't move (it's trickier than it sounds!)
Round 4: targets move half speed and require two hits to clear.
Round 5: targets move full speed and require two hits to clear.
Round 6: targets don't move and require two hits to clear.
(Hint: if you can clear Round 3, let me know! I've only made it as far as Round 3, Wave 3. It's a tough game!)
HOW SCORING WORKS
Targets start at 10 points each. For each successful strike, the multiplier goes up (maximum of 10 or 100 points each). However, miss a shot or let a target drop off the screen and your multiplier goes back to 1. Note that in Rounds 4 through 6, you won't advance your multiplier unless you break each target. Remember: two hits for each target are required!
GAME OVER
Losing is pretty easy... For example, each shot lasts a limited time as it ricochets around the room. Eventually, a shot will time out and no points will be awarded. This counts as a miss. Miss 10 shots and it's GAME OVER.
Another way to lose is by letting targets drop off the screen. Each target that drops off the screen counts as 1 miss. Again, you're only allowed to miss 10 times and they add up extremely fast if you aren't fast or accurate enough!
Fortunately, you have a chance to win extra misses if you can beat the "EXTRA" score. The first one is at 250 points. Then it jumps to 1000. Each time you beat the "EXTRA" score you win back a miss, so keep that multiplier at MAX and try not to miss any targets!
GREETZ and SHOUTZ
First of all, I just wanted to say "Thank you!" to Christian over at Lazy Devs Academy for getting me started in Pico-8. It's been a long-time dream of mine to be a professional game developer, but I was just never good at making my ideas come to life until I discovered Christian's tutorials. I mean, sure, I could develop web apps and web sites and all kinds of things, but I just couldn't seem to figure out how to make a decent game. Hopefully, you'll consider Rebound to be a "decent game."
And on that note, thank you for taking the time to read all this give my game a try! Again, I hope you enjoy it and find it as addictive as I have.
For anyone who has experienced the simple joy of throwing a super bounce or hi-bounce ball against a wall in a long hallway and watched it bounce all over the place at crazy angles, this one's for you!
