Hi, this is my first pico-8 "game".

I never coded in lua, as a java programmer, it's hard :(

Notes:
-The colision check is so buggy (maybe my fault, i think).
-I speak spanish, so... "sorry for mah bad english".
-Also, the game is a port of my javascript version of the game
-I forgot to update the score when you destroy an enemy, duh.

I'll appreciate your feedback c:

Very cool! Inspired by Pico-8, I've started to make sort of "brick game builder" (called brick game studio) in Unity in the spare time, but don't know what was the resolution of the "main" screen (the help screen, where in tetris mode next brick is shown is 4x4 afaik). If you could provide details about it I could get this working, as I want authentic experience, games would be coded in Lua too.

If you could provide screen specs of brick games, I can get it working (sound I know is a mono square wave)

Also are enemy tanks supposed to be invulnerable from the side? Player's tank isn't which makes this unfair.

In any case, the my ultimate fav on the brick game, aside of tetris was always racing one. I hope in future you'll implement that iconic explosion effect happening in all brick games when you or the enemy dies.

This is a nice game, but sometimes it's hard to figure out which one I am.
Given the code, you could probably change it to be more dynamic (like Combat for the Atari 2600).

Yes, but it is based on popular in the 90s (and having quite a cult status here in Poland due to their low price and high availability, you still can buy these) so-called "brick games".

They had very simple lcd 1bit (2 color) dotmatrix display made out of those "bricks" (square like pixels and Peka got their true look 100% right).

The simplest ones had only Tetris on it, but more complex had menus that allowed you to pick up a game and it variant (games were usually represented by letters on the display, build out of these blocks and variants were represented by numbers. Sometimes even there was animation of what game is under that letter.

Some games that were included were:

Tetris (obviously), sometimes with variants that included pentonimos as well as tetronimos, blocks that passed through others to fill a hole, etc.)

Car racing

Some weird frogger-like game

Snake

Breakout (sometimes with various different boards)

Shooting games were on it as well, but details are murky.

//edit: And of course tanks like in this game.
