Any chance we could get a Raspian build of PICO-8? I'd love to put PICO-8 on my sons little rip' machine with its new touchscreen - it'd be ideal for him to do some programming with!

So any chance we could get a Raspian binary folks?

He is already working on this.
Little problem, though, is that you can't use this with the Linux version, due to it needing a i386-based processor, and the RPi has an ARM-based processor.
You could still try, but I don't think it would work(or at least well enough).
Also, touchscreen would probably be tough to develop with. In my opinion, let him use a mouse, but have the option of the touchscreen.
One more thing that'll be coming out for PICO-8 soon is the carts browser, so you could make the RPi into a console, handheld (probably use the A+ model) or not.

Well, that was a lot of rambling.

I came here specifically for this...
I'm in the process of making a Raspberry Pi (A+) inside a DMG-01 Gameboy shell, and having PICO-8 on it would be literally AMAZEBALLS.

my progress is being updated here: mameboypi
it's a little further on from that as from last night but not much... however now that some significant life events are out of the way, I'm going to be getting back on it :)

@abrugsch 320x240 means that either you'll have to play PICO-8 at 1x resolution(128x128) or have 16(8 technically)pixels cut off if you use 2x resolution(256x256).
(you're using a PiTFT, right?)
My suggestion: find a screen with a LITTLE more resolution. (Pac-Man plays at a resolution of 224×288)

@Skyrunner65:
There really aren't that many options though.
The only possible one I know would be to use a bigger display (3.5" or 4" @ 320x480) in pivot. Not completely stupid idea as some arcade games are in pivot in the first place.

@ibisum, abrugsch:
As far as I know, the first gen RasPi isn't quite powerful enough to run Pico-8 in full. I could be wrong though. RasPi 2 should work perfectly. Could also be fixed eventually with some optimizations.

@JohnEdwa awww... that's a bummer. OK then, gen II of the GameMamePiBoy it is ;) maybe they'll do a Pi 2 model A ;)
Probably have to do something with HDMI as it's not recommended to do games using SPI and the higher res screens. we shall see how MK I turns out though. Unfortunately, hdmi takes a lot of space... I've removed the HDMI socket from my Pi!

@Skyrunner65 yes, it's a PiTFT.
i think 1x res would have to be the option here, but that's no biggie as it would end up being approx the same size as the original GB screen, maybe a little smaller, as the 2.4" 320x240 is a fair bit bigger than the OG screen.

Me personally, I would convert it into a Neat little portable that can play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, and Pico-8!

All you'd need is a 160x144 screen, and all except Pico-8 will play at the native resolution!

I might save that for V3 ;) something with a cart reader too. I'm already looking at having the original cart port in action to load from real GB/GBC and maybe GBA carts (the port is the same but voltage is different. GB/GBC are 5v logic and GBA is 3.3v) not impossible but already beyond the scope of what i want to do with V1...
