The story so far
Knytt, a peculiar creature living on a unique planet, is abducted by an alien in a spaceship for no apparent reason and taken into outer space. While the alien is traveling through space, the spaceship is hit by a meteoroid and crashes onto another planet.
About the game
❤Knytt is the demake of Knytt, a game created by Nicklas Nygren (AKA Nifflas), back in 2007. At that time, I was working in Umeå, Sweden, and this Swedish little game was the new thing. I liked it right away: no real danger, just exploration with a compass, much like the ray of light on the hero's sword from Shadow of the Colossus, another one of my favorite games.

How to play?
LEFT, RIGHT - Move around
UP - Climb
DOWN - Slide down, Save your game while standing on a light spot
X - Compass to point to the next junk
C - Jump

Found a spider, got bored of trying to time tiny jumps and velcro walls against its high speed. One-way was relatively bearable, but having to pull it off twice in a row? (well, 1.5 times judging by the layout)
In general it seemed pretty solid, though. The tiny player reads really well for being so low res.

I played the original Knytt years ago and I liked very much. Your demake is spot on from what I can remember.By the way, I got stuck on this spot.
The game is quite difficult in some places. I killed myself a bunch of times trying to jump above those two slimes at the beginning.
This exact same spot is in the original game. You need to go underground.
As for the jumps, I had to reduce the height, otherwise I couldn't fit as much content as I'd like to in my demake. But there are always ledges or walls to jump from in order to overcome the slimes :)
DonDoli made a video playthrough of my Pico-8 demake of Knytt. And while he is completely lost for more than 15 minutes, it is very helpful for me to see someone else playing, so I can tweak the game and fix some little bugs.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
The screens are smaller so that's why I had to reduce the jump height, otherwise one would fly around the globe within seconds. But I can try to reduce the gravity and see if it's better.
I need to fix the collision detection with slimes. I've done that part so long ago, I don't even remember how it works. But it shouldn't be too hard.
Without the musics, the landscape feels a bit empty. I'll try to add wind and cave sounds to overcome that.
Expect a new version of the game soon!
And it's done. Here's the changelog for the version 1.01:
- Gravity is weaker.
- Jump is a bit stronger. Knytt can jump over slimes, but the overall game is now definitely easier.
- Spider crawls slower.
- No climbing sound if Knytt is touching the ceiling while moving up.
- Better collision detection against bad critters.
- Fix: jump+up makes Knytt to bounce from a wall if he touches the ceiling.
I'll see about the ambient sounds later ;)
