Awesome! Really well done!

(edit)
the main screen is a little hard on the eye though, here's a suggestion:

Indeed ! This definitely gets my gold star.
Superb shrinkage of graphics to meet Pico's resolution.

As I've put aside my Pico-8 projects until the next Pico-8 update, you are welcome to make use of my stars in your marvelous shooter here ...

Thanks guys.

@ultrabrite yeah. Was something I wanted to change but never got around to it. Least 've got it out there now and in the next revision I`ll make the change.

@dw817 I did see that when I did a search for galaxian games on the forum. Rather than change mine to be the same as yours I left as is, but now I spose I can go back and make the starfield look more like the original.

Galaxian Video Arcade Game! Cool!! :D

Very cool -- guess I have to add it to PICO ARCADE!

Nice. I have two comments on this...

1.) In the original game, killing the Galaxian (yellow dude), it stopped the rest of the formation from breaking away to dive at the player for about 3-5 seconds. Any previously diving enemy would continue until they reach bottom of screen. This made it strategic to aim for the yellow dude if you feel overwhelmed.

2.) The size of the ship and the size of the enemy in the original were closer to the same. In this, it feels like the enemy has huge advantage for being so tiny compared to ship. 5 pixels wide is extremely narrow target! lol

Either way, this is really well done and I'm actually glad you decided to not have the diving sound as that would get aggrivating in the original!

I don't know if you'll feel up to revising this whatsoever, but if you do, consider those suggestions, most notably the 'don't dive for a bit after yellow dude dies' rule. In a lot of those old namco games, there were tons of these little 'unspoken' behaviors that players could discover if they were attentive.

Nice work, love it!

One minor bug I've noticed is that if you hit an enemy, the yellow missile does not appear back at the front of your ship (like it does when you miss).

Also a possible bug...the enemies can be seen in the score area (top 5 rows of pixels) but cannot be shot while there...the missile seems to stop at that point. In the arcade version I'm sure the missiles go right to the top of the screen.

Spotted another few differences to the arcade:

1) You can hold the fire button down to fire repeatedly.
2) This game seems a lot quicker (waiting for a shot to go off screen in the arcade game can feel like an age).

Those are not criticisms, but do create a different feel to the arcade game.

Well done!
