So amazingly good. This is a near perfect demake of Space Invaders Extreme which is one of my favorite PSP/DS games.

Thanks! I'm happy to see folks are still finding Invader Overload and enjoying it. It was one of my very first PICO8 games. I kinda wish there was a final boss or something but I'm still very happy with it and play it myself pretty often...still chasing a higher score!
It's funny sometimes when I look at my older games and go "wow, how'd I do that," and then look at the code and it's so different than how code games today...and not always for the better, lol.
I certainly overthink how I make games now whereas when I started learning P8, I just kinda brute forced my way just to learn and get something out the door. I try to do that now and just keep reverting to overthinking and overcomplicating things to the point where I run out of space, etc. Invader Overload, Buzz Kill, and those other early games of mine just feel so nice to be still because I remember the excitement of getting something playable even if the guts are "inefficient" - a reminder that it doesn't have to look good on the inside if it does what it needs to do on the outside.

@morningtoast It's surprising I've never left a comment on this cart before. I find myself coming back to it time and again for a quick, satisfying blast.
It was one of my earliest experiences on Pico8, and it still holds up brilliantly. The gameplay is smooth, the controls feel great, and it's just plain fun to play.

@morningtoast To this day I don't think once about code inefficiency because if I go down that rabbit hole, I'll never finish anything. I just crank it out. Sometimes I figure out a better way to do something mid-stream and rip out the old way to put that in, but I just don't think I ever want to spend time analyzing my code. I'd rather a game be done and ugly than beautifully rotting away in my unfinished projects folder, LOL.
