Introducing Writer!, the PICO-8 word processor that nobody asked for. Writer! would have been distributed with the PICO-8 (fantasy) keyboard peripheral, which plugs into both controller ports. Don't have a PICO-8 keyboard of your own? Your standard keyboard's WE, ASDF, XC and arrow keys should emulate the correct inputs.

I love that you're fleshing out the PICO-8 backstory. Writer! is surprisingly easy to work with once you get the hang of it

Great setup there.
The system works pretty well though I'm reminded of a GBA homebrew program I used to use all the time as a notepad.
Something called Dante Advance
It's site is gone but you can still get the program and try it in an emulator.

It had a weird d-pad cluster like typing system that worked really well for me.
Don't see too many typing systems like that for limited key layouts.

Would be great to see some text adventures using this keyboard setup. xD

Ka-phew, LRP ! This is pretty intense ! Very difficult to type in if you don't have it all memorized. Still, seems to be a pretty fast way to type.

I remember building a notepad program for GBA that used a quick method to let you type in. And that =IS= limited.

(A) (B) (Start) (Select) (Left) (Right) (Up) (Down) (Left-Toggle) (Right-Toggle).

Since I'm not seeing an easy way to type text into PICO-8, likely I will revive this so others can use it with POCKETCHIP and make notes on the go.
