HELLO !
I thought I would create a thread for people who need sprite assistance from other artists. The only recommendation is that it uses the PICO-8 palette and by default is 8x8 pixels in size.
.
I'll start off. I currently have a crossbow image I drew for the game I am working on:
[16x16] | |
But I really want to have a blunderbuss instead. As you can see it is not your basic gun and has a wide opening at the front.
Can you help me ? Can you draw this effectively in an 8x8 pixel format ?
Also, I'm a bit of an artist myself and either draw the image from scratch or color sprites from old games I have:
So if =YOU= need some help with some of your sprites, I may be able to draw it or I've drawn it in one of my image libraries already.
Here is a rough list of one of my image archives directories, that which contains many games I have not yet written but have drawn the images for it - designed specifically 8x8 pixel work in GFA-Basic (which I no longer use nor does it run in Windows 8).

FRIDAY
Here's another one. This is an attempt at Times New Roman. I wanted to use it for where text was important, like for text adventures and stuff. Not sure if it came out quite well enough.
Also includes 2-arrows useful for navigation.

Placing them in PICO, use as you like. :)

This is nice to have, one of the great sprites from my collection from an older RPG. Can you place it ? Converted for use in PICO.
You may want to recolor them. Each are 16x16 pixels so you can fit 8x8 of these individual sprites on the screen.

It is ! You've got a good eye ! I'll be posting a few more today. There already is a great Super Mario clone out that uses the original graphics of the classic NES special.
Would be nice to have someone (I can do it) post the sprites to older games for use in non-commercial Pico projects.
You could indeed !
Outside of the Blue player above, these are encoded as only 3-different images, as you mentioned. I figured anyone who wants to use them can delete their mirror counterparts if they so choose.
I'm encoding them as eight in here though so they are ready to go for anyone.
For if instead someone want to use all 8 and have easier coding without dealing with mirroring, or perhaps they are confused by writing code that handles mirroring, then they are more than welcome to use the whole unedited table.

You may need MIRROR plotting to complete this cleanly rotated fighter plane.
Let me know if you'd like me to extend this sprite set to 64-characters including mirrors instead of just the 32- as it is now.

Thought I'd try a hand at that blunderbuss you were asking for earlier. One for icons and one for gameplay.
Since you're sharing some fun useful pico images, I also threw in some generally useful stuff I made a while ago -
- a 4-frame "Coin Collect" animation
- a 4-frame "Explosion" animation
- Shovel-Knight sprites (2-frame Run animation, 2-frame Shovel animation)

Sorry guys, I was dozing off yesterday. Let's make up for it now.

These take a lot of space, granted, but you get some very smooth rotation with them.
Here are a few more racing car attributes:

Tonight, I'll post some all new RPG sprites, doubt you've ever seen them anywhere else before. :)

What am I doing now ? I'm working on writing a proper input function. And WOW, it's not easy. Seems I put one project on a backburner to work on another - a part that's needed for it - and then work on ANOTHER part - that's needed for THAT part. ==SIGH==
Anyways, I'm taking a break. here's your art submit for today:

Hey, can anyone help me here ? I'm trying to write a fairly intuitive key input routine that can recognize multiple keystrokes in addition to keys being held down and registering their values based on the time held.
Try your hand at it. I'm always interested in seeing different methods on handling questions and ideas.

Hi Hendini. Sorry I couldn't get around to this sooner. Was in the hospital - heart trouble.
Anyways, let's see ...
That's actually pretty straight forward. If you want to have it with _UPDATE(), that would be THIS code:
function _init() cls() t=stat(85) end function _draw() if stat(85)!=t then print(t) t=stat(85) end end function _update() end |
Hope This Helps !
