Here's a new puzzle game from fellow indie developer PiEyeGames. It uses the same sort of sticky blocks mechanism as CC/Denki Blocks, but it plays quite differently. Well worth a look:

I like the game mechanics and the visuals. However, the inertia and imprecision involved in pulling the blocks around really sucks. It does make them feel heavy and all, but that is not what you want in a puzzle game. PyraCubes could really use the snappiness of the CC controls, a replay function and a level editor. The preset "expert goals" are a nice feature though. Maybe CC should add that too, now that we pretty much know the best solutions to all puzzles.

It definitely doesn't play like CC. Unclear picture, the blinking lights hurts your eyes after a while, and the pieces stick together even though you're still moving them.
We are just spoiled with CC.
I also like the editor-games that are being posted. Wish I had it in me to create one myself. But alas, no such luck.

Hello Gray, Brendansoma ... thanks for the feedback : )

I actually had a bug in PyraCubes which caused it to play twice as fast on a friend’s PC and you’re right, it’s currently too sluggish. I always add lots of momentum in my games, even when it’s not necessary and will tweak this.

I’ll also add something to the options menu to allow the player to reduce the energy effects on the cubes and may even consider an editor at some point if I can work out a good way to allow players to upload levels.

Ha, couldn’t agree more â€| I nearly canned PyraCubes when I first played CC, but I think the game offers something different and I’m glad I finished it =D

Thanks again,
George.

I like the expert goals idea too. I might just pinch that (: It would be a good thing to make part of the file format too, for puzzles which are more fun when trying to minimise the number of moves (such as 'Solve in 5' which I just posted).

Hi George,

I would finish the game if it just had a clear picture i.e. no lights and shadow.

Yay ... you pinch expert goals and I'll pinch making the editor available =D

>> if it just had a clear picture

Ah, that's the 'atmosphere' effect. I guess it can be a bit distracting and is quite dark around the corners. I'll add something to reduce/switch this off in the options menu : )

Hi George,

I'm glad that you take player feedback seriously. PyraCubes certainly offers a different experience than CC and anyway doesn't really "pale in comparison" :). I think the puzzles are well-designed and personally, I like the graphics the way they are.
I think adding the ability to replay and improve your own solutions would make a lot of sense since you have expert goals in the game. It's probably also easier to implement than an editor... Just a thought :)
