Dream Ghoul is a small, silly game I made my for wife for her favorite time of year. Find the keys, grab the hearts, and meet your dream ghoul! Just move around with your arrow keys and try not to bump into things. (Or do bump into things; it's funny to watch!)
I hope it amuses you for a minute or so.
back story
I'm a professional software engineer with more than 30 years experience, but have been having a blast learning game development with Pico-8 the past few months. I drew the main character one evening and built a tiny game around him. This is my first game I've shared publicly. Thanks to Lazy Devs Academy for the great tutorials and Caitlin for the inspiration.
I'm taking an AI class and though I would give it a try to write a game. I keep putting off learning how to do things in PICO-8 and maybe this will be the gateway into diving in closer.
Get ready to bounce, break blocks, and use superpowers! Battle Shield Enhanced is an action-packed game of reflexes that combines pong, brick-breaking, and one-on-one combat.
Game Description
In Battle Shield, you control your character to hit the ball and destroy your opponent's blocks. The goal is to run out of blocks before your opponent or beat the AI in single-player mode. As you progress, the game becomes faster and more challenging, and you can use dashes and superpowers to change the game.
Key Features:
-
Multiple game modes:
- PvE: Player vs. AI
- PvP: Player 1 vs. Player 2
- Increasing difficulty levels.
- Dash to move quickly in any direction.
A fake pause menu for meta-shenanigans in a pico8 game! Inspired by Voices of the Void, I wanted to recreate a framework to fake pico8's built in pause menu. It can't actually favorite or adjust settings (I don't think). Now includes a little ghost pal!
Explanation of methods:
The basic functionality comes from the capability to detect the pause menu button with btnp(6). This alone doesn't stop the real pause menu from appearing. With a poke(0x5f30,1) we can temporarily suppress (not prevent) the pause menu from being activated for this frame.
Now, it's just a matter of recreating the pause menu as close as possible. The pause menu changes based on if it was launched from splore, run from the prompt, or in the bbs. We can deduce a few things from different stat calls.

Hello! I have a sneak-peak to show my upcoming game: Snail's Gold 2. It's entirely map based, 0 tutorials used, all me. (Unlike the first game.) So how it works, and why you can't move down on some tiles, and why there's no gravity, and why you can't do some stuff when walking, is you are only able to walk forward on air tiles and go down on ladder tiles.
I haven't been working on this for a while, but I think it's time to work on it again.
WARNING: Contains flashing. Also this is not a game.
Controls:
- X to speed up text and move to next scene.
- Left/right arrows to move between scenes.
I became interested in Greek myths and thought I'd turn the stories into some pico-8 carts. I first started with 150 scenes but it was too big. I settled for just under 90 scenes with some sacrifices made around the code generated graphics.

Warning
This tool overwrites saves from other carts. Make sure you know what you are doing.
Controls
Instructions on which keys or buttons to press are displayed on screen at all times.
Note: pause menu is supressed in keyboard mode, hold ENTER or P for a second to display it.
Context
- PICO-8 executables save cartdata as text files in the cdata folder.
- BBS javascript, on the other hand, is limited to your browser's internal storage, which is a lot less convenient for users to access directly.
Purpose
This tool allows you to easily transfer your progress between PICO-8 installations, particularly from/to the BBS. It also allows you to edit your saves on the fly.
Hello everyone! I just started learning PICO-8 and decided to make chess (why not?). Would appreciate any feedback!
