Platformer concept using Nerdy Teachers platformer series for base player code, collision, and animations.
Honestly, really proud of this parallax cloud effect, although it's one issue seems to be that the clouds won't move if the player is in the starting position, which maybe has to do with my math moving the x drawing position for the clouds depending on the player.x's positions and being so close to the map limits.
This is my first real pico 8 project!
Let me know if the aesthetic inspires any gameplay ideas!
EDIT:
Spent hours trading code with chatgpt and learning how to implement the cats, they're a little finicky and unpredictable, but that's cats for you.
For now, enjoy endlessly collecting stray cats!
the pixel art you made is very stunning! it reminds me of a dark-isk city, maybe a bit of steampunk for some reason. the use of the palette is really good here, well done!
I like the music. Placing the player at the top when they fall is an interesting way of avoiding player deaths.
This is awesome! I've been thinking about de-making my game jam game with similar mechanics, and this is really helpful! Here's the game https://elliotkantor.itch.io/robbin-pies
That's a very nice game. I enjoy top-down falling mechanic and the color palette a lot!
This is awesome! Haha in mind mind I was thinking the guy looked like a thief or something "Cat Burglar" is what popped into my head. It's fun collecting the cats and running through the city like batman or something. Maybe some enforcers that try to stop you from taking the cats and a level/night system like Night 1, Night 2, and you try to collect as many cats as you can with a timer?
