This is in direct response to @packbat's marvelous MIDI collection.

I didn't choose a number cause I don't want to overwrite a number you already had.

I have not heard a really good synthesizer instrument yet so I decided to listen to one of my favorite music authors, Vangelis, and the lovely instrument he did in the opening of "Five Circles."

Here is my attempt to recreate the 1st note in the song "Five Circles" - as played by Pico-8.

The third sound, (sfx 5 where you press UP) is my submit for both midilib and denote.

Not just my project! I've been trying to contribute a lot to it, but it was at least as much @jo560hs and @bikibird's idea as mine, and none of us are making all the sounds alone.

That's an interesting sound. I'm not sure how much of it can be condensed into a single sfx, but the kind of tremolo feeling you get from having no glides between volume levels might be worth imitating. It's always my reflex to use the slide effect for volume shaping, so, worth remembering that not doing that can have a good effect.

Tremelo ... I can't seem to recreate that sound with just one SFX, @packbat. However you got me thinking. See if this doesn't sound better making use of "detune."

One more shot at this. Updating the top now with FINAL. Instrument is SFX 5 (five).

Oh, please, please, @dw817, make it a duplicate! Whether or not any given instrument goes into @jo560hs's soundfont, the archive of midilib SFX is intended as a resource for PICO-8 musicians - if you know that this SFX evokes the sound of string synthesizers, then tell us that it's "midi 050 StringSynth 1" or "midi 051 StringSynth 2" or "midi 050/midi 051 SynthStrings"! That way, people searching for a string synth can find your SFX.

Frankly, I would rather see the soundfont use your SFX as one of the two and one of mine as the other than use both of mine - it's not my call, it's jo560hs's call, but the whole reason I made two is because I wanted to make sure that jo560hs had options that sounded different, and yours sounds way more different.

Alright ... I just don't like to step on other people's toes if I can avoid it.

@packbat, which instrument should it be for midi ?

I listened to these and it doesn't sound like any match ...

Much appreciated! I know I have a lot of pride wrapped up in my SFX instruments, I'm glad that you're being so considerate. We are completely fine, though - thank you.

> I listened to these and it doesn't sound like any match ...

Good news: that's not what your SFX is meant to match. The Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth is not part of the MIDI Association's GM1 Sound Set standard - the actual standard just specifies the name of the instrument, and we manufacturers of sounds can interpret those names however we want.

I (well, Wikipedia) interpreted "SynthStrings" to mean a string synthesizer, and presented with that name, your interpretation was this SFX. In my opinion, that makes this SFX "midi 050/midi 051 SynthStrings".

Oh ! Okay. Umm ... Well I'll make it 51 then and you can always trade it out to another number if that doesn't work out.

I did find a Midi match though to my Glass instrument though, "Glockenspiel." However you can rename and renumber that too if you like.

Let me know what needs to be done, @packbat. :)

This seems perfect to me - thank you kindly for all your work!

Edit: Wait, actually, @dw817, midilib tag! You only have midi as a tag right now.

Oof ! I forgot. Updated.
