Hey everyone! This was done for a game jam over the summer, and it was my first time making a game using Pico-8 -- not that I made much outside of Pico-8 to begin with! I must say I really liked the experience! The included demos are really useful. Special thanks to oli414 for the dialogue system, and to lexaloffle for the fun game making environment.
Feel free to provide feedback! If I had to start the game over, I would probably go for mechanics that better took into account the two buttons layout on Pico-8, haha. Still, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.
Update: Fixed a typo and cleaned up a room visually.
Update #2: Added additional boss fight sound effects.
Update #3: Tweaked difficulty of first and final boss, and fixed bug where sight would return after dying to the final boss.
Update #4: Tweaked a part of chapter 2's layout that was bothering me for years, and condensed the introduction dialogue!

my only feedback is to have an outline around the player when they're dodge-rolling to give a little more feedback as to when the player is invulnerable
Thank you so much for the kind words! That sounds like a good idea. I'm thinking of coming back to the game after a break to include some quality of life improvements, this is definitely on the list :)
i am not joking when i say this reminds waaay too much about dark souls
Truly the Dark Souls of Pico-8. Hopefully that's the kind of game you enjoy? I was inspired by games like NieR, Touhou and Binding of Isaac, but there's definitely some overlap between this and the Souls series haha.
i still didn't pass the first boss because he is stupidly hard i fells like i'm fighting the empress of light(terraria boss)seriously if the first boss is that hard i can't even imagine the last one
