Derpy Derby is a split-brain typing game in Picotron, made by illuminesce and acedio for PICOJAM26, with wonderful music by zep!
The top row controls the hormse's front hoof, the bottom row, the back. The front hoof cannot proceed six letters further than the back. Make your way to the finish line by typing all of the sentences!

EDIT: i had a second, and much smoother attempt, and i got to 68.48s! will try again to shave off even more.
EDIT EDIT: third try with 60.28s! it seems this is about my cap, every improvement is much less than the prev improvement it seems.
also, im a bit disappointed on how people didnt share their scores and all this time, (as opposed to what people did in other games like Celeste and BAS)
oh, and, heres a.. live? counter of my best score, ill update everytime i get a highscore.

51.20 is really good!! That's the fasted I've heard of. My record was 41.63s, but I think I've typed through this over a hundred times now haha. Sub-40 would be nuts.

okay so... unfortunate thing; in the highscore screen, it infinitely "connecting..." 's me.
although, its very likely that this is a problem with my side because our country is just heavily geoblocked
also, interestingly, ive found myself making a route in my mind, into one big string then type that asap
for example, the first line can become "move the front back legs by typing on this line"
or "ge without t to falling the fini a sh p line art" (its both lines but merged but it also follows the leg rules)
so, i just did attempt 8 and oh man shaving a whole 7 seconds in is superhuman
I think that potentially the high score servers are having some issues at the moment, as even other games (like Boink!, made by zep himself) appear to be having issues loading scores 🤔 Hopefully they'll be back up soon!
47.00s is dang good!! I also appreciate the round number ;) I agree that planning a route through the text is the right way to bring the number down. I always wind up typing similar phrases, and that's actually where Hormse's win quote comes from, as I would type "i ate an apple" ... "today for", then switch, "to winnn" instead of "breakfast".

@acedio hi, so, its currently 9/26/2026,
and the highscore problem hasnt been fixed.
im almost completely sure that other players can see their highscores just fine,
its that me, particularly, like, our region is geoblocked from every other server.
so... that comment i keep editing is the closest thing i have.
also, i got 45.13 or smth last attempt!!

@mcplayz Daaaaang nice work!! The fastest on the high score board right now is 44.68s, so that puts you solidly in the lead :D
I think you might be right about the regional blocking. The high score tables were offline for a few days, but they seem to have recovered now and other people have been able to post scores. Sorry about that! Your score is insane, though! :O

@mcplays Here is the current set of high scores! It's a little hard to read; I think it's a bit more readable in the game when it's animating, but I've gotta see what else might make it more clear 😅

i did one attempt without really trying, got 44s, then went like "wait did i like almost get first" and realized "wait i broke sub 40 what happened there"
Was a blast to play and get the top score! (43.87s as of writing this)
Not sure 100% how the system works for which you have to type, but it wasn't too hard to brute force it.
EDIT: if I actually read the BBS post I'd have known.

I don't mind if you take the concept/code and run with it! Though I didn't do the art/music so can't say for those sadly (illuminesce@ and zep@, respectively).

Will try reach out at somepoint if I end up wanting to do that. A scoresub table or my own server could be a good enough method for it and just recording the progress (though for neck and neck stuff, scoresub would have maybe too much delay)
