Here's Clockwise Knight !

story

Karnoth messed up big time and now sulks in his dungeon, pretending to feel guilty.
Too late! The Clockwise Knight is already on his way, and he won’t stop until Karnoth’s head rolls.

goal

  • Each run costs 1 day and rewards you with XP
  • Spend XP to lock or unlock skills between days.
  • Your final score is the number of days it took you to find and slay Karnoth.

controls

  • [Arrow Keys] move knight
  • [v] swing your sword 180°
  • [hold c] roll ( need green orb )

swing damage

  • Your sword deals 1-4 damage depending on swing distance
  • Red Orbs let you strike again if your swing is stopped by a high-HP enemy
  • -1 damage per ennemy hit
  • Many items may change these rules : extra damage, longer arc, minimum damage etc.

Exhaustion

  • Swing and using armor's orb drain knight for 3 and 6 turns.
  • While knight is tired, he can't regenerate orbs
  • Some items/skills can change the swing's drain ammount.

This is so cool! The game is seemingly simple but has so many layers of complexity. I'm going to be playing this for a while. I wonder if I'll ever be able to swing my sword counter clockwise somehow.

Whew, took me 24 game days to finally slay Karnoth. I probably could have done it sooner if I took my time and thought through my moves earlier instead of relying on instinct, which I started to do more later on.

All the mechanics are so clever, I absolutely love how it all fits together. There's little explanation, but it's fun to figure out how these systems function on your own. There are two minor things that I'd like to note, though. First, I feel like using the training-upgrade that lets you keep your sword from rotating to just stab enemies instead of slashing them is too easy. I often found myself going floors without actually slashing. The other thing is that it took me way too long to realize the importance of exhaustion, mainly because the only indicator of it is a little number in the bottom. Maybe a character effect, like a blue version of the blood drop that appears on enemies under certain conditions, could help with making that clearer.

Anyway, this game was a lot of fun!


I still need to find the boss but I can easily tell the game is my cup of tea, great job! ⭐💗

@benjamin_soule somehow this happened while switching knight/sword location, they both stayed in the same tile:

BTW it was the sword not switching back up because I swung and it hit the green blob.

yes but swinging causes more dmg. By the way I confirm I'm more often poking rather than swinging, it also seems more effective on birds.


@B.R. I believe it's automatic, it's a real powerful ability.

@Heracleum I think I got that bug too at one point! It goes away after one move though, so I forgot about it.
And about the slashing: I realized at some point that slashing does more damage, but it's potentially risky to set up, so I often end up sticking to stabbing because it also keeps me a safe distance from the enemy I'm attacking. I guess it depends on your playstyle + build, I might do a more damage focused, slash-based run soon.

Day 6 win >:D

The "drain" is the countdown you see at the bottom of the screen after swinging your sword. It blocks power regeneration and also you won't get the spear bonus damage if it's still counting down.

@Munchkin I added the blue drop icon. It works fine. Also changed the stab mechanic : it's now unlocked with rapier.
@B.R. Rewinding days is a skill that improve your final score ( days )

fun! so many tiny intricacies with how the sword works. I haven't managed to beat it yet

bug report: I saw a new enemy on day 4ish, the big blue ball here. I died to a slime while the blue thing was dashing(?) and now I'm softlocked: the game isn't frozen but my inputs do nothing. I had maybe 4 or 5 upgrades.


When you swing your sword on a moving ball from the red mages, it deals you damages.


What a good game dude! 🔥🔥🔥
