Welcome to _Update() Jam! Three new games in three different genres by three different authors, all created from the exact same tiny sprite sheet.

In A Jackpot of Skulls by Brainfruit, your eternal fate rests in the capable hands of a cosmic slot machine. But if you spin the wheels right, it might let you make a few modifications... more info here -> https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=jackpot

In Bird Watcher by Rémy Devaux, a curious cat gets the jump on exactly 84 birds. A puzzle-vania adventure that rewards experimentation and observation. More info here -> https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=154589

In Frogwell by Adam Atomic, a frog falls down a very deep hole.

Play using a gamepad or the X, C, and arrow keys.

If you want to make your own _update() game, the base PICO-8 cart (which includes the instructions, code, and sprites!) is available here.

Jackpot of Skulls is pretty solid and reminds of games like Buckshot Roulette.

Frogwell is brilliant. Great mechanic and level design.

In Bird Watcher, I couldn't figure out what to do.

Jackpot ok skulls is well made, but not my thing.

Frogwell is great, will bookmark, star and comment once the cart is released in its own post.

Bird watcher is my favorite of the three, if a bit confusing at first.
@madebydylan, I recommend you to give it another shot, but to look at the author's explanations https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=182699

function _draw()
	cls(0)
	map()
	for i=1,min(16,#gfx) do
		spr(gfx[i][1],gfx[i][2],gfx[i][3])
	end
	print(txt,txt_x,txt_y)
end

These are really neat handles for sprites & text. A very clean way of dealing w/ gfx. I like the fact that it makes me feel like I'm taking a bunch of toys out of my toy box to create a story with them.

I also like y'all's use of the gfx array, just stuffing things in there to pop out some pretty visuals. I never thought of this kind of abstraction before, but it's a lot of fun. I'm definitely stealing this for my own usage! ;)
