Berzerk Realm is based on the 1980 arcade game, Berzerk.
Help Broccoli Rob escape the Wirehead robots, but beware the electric walls and the unstoppable Timey Tim!
Arrow keys to move, Z/O to start & fire.
50pts per bot destroyed.
Bonus for destroying all robots in a room: 10pts/bot.
Cool, good job getting the maze generation and all working like the original. I've been working a bit on a direct port myself, but haven't got the enemies implemented yet.
I assume the broccoli-themed protagonist was inspired by the original's bright green, stick-like appearance?
Thanks! The characters/sprites are all inside references to the YouTube channel of artist, Robert Geronimo [1]: Broccoli Rob's his nickname, Wirehead's his creation (from an upcoming graphic novel [2]), and Timey Tim (a personified timer) belongs to Rob's publisher, Pete Simeti (Pizzameti) [3].
BTW, the game also has a cheat mode: On the intro screen, use the Konami code (U-U-D-D-L-R-L-R) to make the player invulnerable. In this mode, some game state variables are shown at the bottom of the screen:
- Score/10
- R: num rooms escaped
- K: player kills (num robots destroyed by player bullets)
- A: robot anger level, determines likelihood of robots chasing player; increases with player kills
- I: robot intelligence, likelihood of robots avoiding walls or other bots; increases with rooms escaped
- B: max number of robot bullets allowed at once; increases with player kills
- S: robot speed; increases with rooms escaped
To exit the game from cheat mode, press X.
