Inspired by watching tutorials from Bridgs, MBoffin and Gruber. Scenery collision is a bit hit and miss (lol), but I'm scratching an itch with it right now. This one is 2-player only, sorry - but my goal is a bigger map and a decent single-player mode. Oh, and the next production will have a little more polish to it (including a proper 'death' animation ha ha).... and I'll learn about writing 'optimal' Lua code

Objective
Player 1 and Player 2 get to drive around one of 4 maps, blasting each other. Shots can ricochet off the mountains but will travel over water. The harder difficulty adjusts the rate of reload and your speed in relation to shots.

Cheers

Good but in the original "Combat" you are modeling this after, the player's shot never hurt the shooter.

Also, maybe option for 1-player ?
Nice mechanics and graphics though. Very true to original.

Good point about not self-harming actually.... that's a very fair point, thanks.

I really want to get it playing 1-player, over a larger map too. I had lots of ideas about fog of war, marsh terrain (slower to run over), getting stuck in water, running out of shells, aircraft dropping power ups etc....
But I realised I needed to see if I could write a very basic one, first :-)

I saw a prototype Atari 2600 cartridge some time back.

It was like Combat but had terrain which slowed down the driver, caused them to speed up and skid to stop, and where it was total cover, you couldn't see who was in there.

Hmm ... I'm wondering if it might be possible to make a 2-dimensional game based on Star Trek 2.

Where two spaceships are in the cloud nebula and can barely see each other, as you said, the "fog of war."

That's a cool idea. If I remember my ST2, wasn't there a very occasional bolt of 'lightning' in the nebula, so you'd sometimes get a split second view of the more of the game area....? :-)

Sounds a bit like my Haunted House game. I had flashes of lightning timed so you could see the rooms, then only intermittently.

I'm working on an 8-bit compressor (yes I was working on a 5- and 6- earlier). Once I finish this I may do that very Star Trek thing unless someone beats me to the draw. :)

Really Cool game here. The Ricocheting is very interesting and makes you think some, instead of just mashing the fire button over and over.
