Much faster and more fun, thanks to some great and quick comments here!

New title screen.

First try at a Pico-8 game.
Made during the Aarhus Gymnasium Game Jam 2016.

This is a nice first go! I really like the upgrade/downgrade gimmick as a premise; working on the pacing of enemy and item spawning feels like the biggest mechanic polish thing needed at the moment, to give the game a little more frantic flow vs. the sort of "hurry up and wait" feeling it has right now with the sparse engagements.

Could be fun to play with the time travel concept with multiple soundtracks trigged by time period changes, too, something like an early 20th century march for the biplane, Kenny Loggins riff for the fighter jet, some futuresynth jazz for the saucer, etc.

nice concept! but the ship movement is a little sluggish.
I tried @60fps (just replace _update with _update60). feels way better, though the enemy could be slowed down a little then. every action game should run @60Hz imho (unless you're really heavy on processing)

oh, took me a while to realize the paperclips are supposed to be time vortices ;)

Thank ultrabrite! Update on the way, you comment was very helpful....and yes, I want to find a better gfx artist for my sprites. But well, it was a game created in about 24 hours, and while I had to learn Pico-8. ;)
