Episode III is out! -> Puzzle Cave III - That 70s Bunny

Hey Everyone,

we finally made it! Episode II of Pinkbunny's adventures is here!

Puzzle Cave II - The Clone Potatoes

By popular demand the difficulty level is raised to 'insane' - well, at least when compared to the first episode :D

We hope you'll enjoy this game!

Cheers!

Update:

2016-05-22: fixed that nasty sound bug (~_~)\

P#16741 2015-11-18 11:34 ( Edited 2017-05-22 18:08)

That's awesome! Especially the art and cutscenes. Level 3 has me just about stumped.

P#16742 2015-11-18 13:07 ( Edited 2015-11-18 18:08)

AHHHHHHHH this is brilliant!! Sokoban's authors would love this!

Definitely harder than Puzzle Cave I! Loving it!

The levels are longer and trickier. A lot more challenging!

But making a little mistake can force you to reset the level, and that could mean losing minutes of hard thoughts and lots of frustration :(

Have you considered adding an "undo last" action?

Thanks!

P#16750 2015-11-18 19:29 ( Edited 2015-11-19 00:29)

20min stuck on lvl10 and counting... lol

P#16751 2015-11-18 20:04 ( Edited 2015-11-19 01:04)

NOOOOOO i refreshed by accident and lost 55min of playing and being at 10/15... :(

P#16752 2015-11-18 20:44 ( Edited 2015-11-19 01:44)

I downloaded the cart and the linux version of pico8 reacts at mouse clicks (this means resets every little mouse movement) and it's unplayable :(

P#16753 2015-11-18 21:09 ( Edited 2015-11-19 02:09)

Wow. Niiiice puzzles. I had way too little sleep tonight because of you guys. Took me 1:24 and 6938 hops, 30 resets, 32 frying events. I made it but I feel like an amateur :)

P#16770 2015-11-19 04:23 ( Edited 2015-11-19 09:23)

Impossible Mission reference! Love it.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the nice words!

@pineapple: Yea. We felt that if we do follow up episodes we should add fresh and new elements so that we don't end up with the same game over and over again (with just a couple of new levels slapped onto them). Hence the new game mechanics, the final stat screen, a proper ending scene and the whole cut scenes and story elements...

@franciscod: We've developped the game under linux (fedora mainly, but also debian) and didn't have any problems with pico-8 during the development.. What distro are you using?

@halfbyte: Sorry about your loss of sleep :) 1h24m is pretty good actually! most people give up before the 5th level, and those who actually do finish the game are in the 1.5h-2h range.. the current record is 1h03m. I guess the game turned out to be a tad bit too hard :D

@dddaaannn: Destroy him, my robots! ;)

Cheers!

I really liked the cutscene animations. That struck me as a lot of polish to add to a P8 game.

P#16970 2015-11-24 10:17 ( Edited 2015-11-24 15:17)

The second level with the breakable pipes immediately forces you to break a pipe with a box to continue, which would have been a great way to teach the player what to do with boxes. Unfortunately, the first level where you must break pipes doesn't do this, and in fact you don't break any pipes until maybe halfway through that level? So The player might not learn what boxes do, and they'll get stumped.

Just something to think on when making puzzles like this.

P#16988 2015-11-24 15:16 ( Edited 2015-11-24 20:16)

Connores: Indeed, well spotted! Originally those two levels where meant to exchanged. The second one is actually the first level... we forgot to switch them... Thanks for pointing this out! \o/

P#16989 2015-11-24 15:36 ( Edited 2015-11-24 20:36)

Connores: fixed - Thx!

P#16995 2015-11-24 16:22 ( Edited 2015-11-24 21:29)

...Even though I didn't switch the levels. Instead I introduced that particular game mechanic a couple of stages earlier. Lazy me :)

W00t!

Awesome game!
Level 9 was the one that stumped me the most.

P#25837 2016-07-24 20:24 ( Edited 2016-07-25 00:24)

very nice!
but I'm getting double keypresses too often on my windows 10 desktop (both html and standalone) and to a lesser degree on my linux laptop. that got away by setting 'fs' to 6 but of course 'running' was slower. you might want to handle first repeat on 6 or 8 frames then 4 to be on the safe side.

P#25863 2016-07-25 09:45 ( Edited 2016-07-25 13:45)

Love this game!

But I'm really really stuck on level 10 - help!

Come on - Anyone? - Just a hint will do....

lvl 10 was hard indeed...as for a hint, don't remember how I did it, but tried lots of different things :)
I don't see why you pushed up the diamond in the right column though

This game is hard than first part...

Took way too long to complete this

Great game though. I look forward to the next chapter.

I got really stuck on level 10.

solution for level 10 if anyone needs it...

Level 10: Make one of you tunnels 2 blocks high across the first three walls. When you reach the third wall push a an orange block up, which makes a hole 3 blocks high.

Also for some reason the 5 blocks at the end of level 12 (I think), which look like a 5 on a dice, really stopped me for ages. Push the middle block left 1, the the block above and below left 1, then push the middle block up or down.

Came here to ask about level 10, saw the solution above and then restarted my game to reset the time period wasn't able to figure out how to take a screenshot in the web app, but I was able to complete the game in 48:37 with 3620 bunny hops,5 resets, 4 frys, and 1129 pushes.

Awesome games, lightly reminiscent of my all-time favorite Eggerland series. Episode 2 is much, much more difficult than episode 1... I actually got stuck for about 30 minutes.

Your little game has a fun and ridiculous atmosphere but is 100% serious with the puzzles.I'm spending some time right now attempting to grok the code, will likely use it as a skeleton for my first actual game. Thank you so much for giving us such an awesome example to follow!

Seven years since release, and still some really ingenious puzzles...

Puzzle Cave II will not soon be forgotten nor the events therein. Very enjoyable.
