I don't know if it's documented anywhere so I made a little cart to show them off. Who needs sprites and tiles when you have ASCII characters? :D
https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=3739 https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=3739 Thu, 30 Jun 2016 20:53:12 UTC Writing good code
I've been hanging out in the IRC channel for a while and it's been really cool to see the community come up around Pico-8. The Fanzine ramped things up by showcasing the cool stuff people have come up with. I haven't made many carts yet but some people expressed interest in what I think makes good code as a professional software developer.

Because of that, I wrote this little series for you guys based off of what I saw in the Fanzine: Clear Code. Some folk in IRC got a kick out of it so hopefully someone here enjoys it as well :)

I also have to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the Fanzine. It takes a certain courage to put your code in public like that so I certainly hope no one minds that I picked some of it apart to make my points.

If you have opinions on code or code snippets to share, post them! I love talking code and Pico-8 brings a lot of interesting developers and ideas together.
https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2508 https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2508 Tue, 22 Sep 2015 18:37:09 UTC Tennis Galaxy

 Tennis Galaxy 1.0.0

by JScott

[Click to Play]

This is my first Pico-8 cart that helped me learn the system and tools. Despite that, it's decently polished and surprisingly entertaining so I wanted to share it with you. It doesn't have a title screen, a lesson learned for the next cart, so the controls are:

up/down - move the paddle
a - slow the paddle for more precision
b - continue to a new game

I also upload my carts to GitHub if anyone's interested in the code, which is probably the best part.
https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2342 https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2342 Thu, 27 Aug 2015 00:46:48 UTC
