Will Voxatron have a multiplayer game mode to connect with other people?

Also, will Voxatron link with accounts and will require a sign-in to play?
I ask because, won't people just pirate the game in the future if not?

There's another post about multiplayer I just replied to, but yeah -- if there were online multiplayer it would definitely require account activation. I'm keeping that in mind. I decided to just leave it open for now though so as not to bother legitimate customers with signing in to play a level etc.

Well now I worry abit, people are sure to pirate it when the two week offer is over. Maybe sooner than that. As for multiplayer, I just read it, how long do you think it will be before you start working on adding multiplayer directly? I don't ask to pester you, I ask because making it multiplayer would keep me (and a lot of other people) hooked on it for a long time.

Long live Voxatron! :D

Depending on how popular it becomes, the game should get a launcher as Minecraft has, that provides users with an account with updates and news. And maybe a standalone forum at some time with user maps and maybe objetcs later in an own section. I don't know if it's worth the effort and or if I am just dreaming ;D. I think that Voxatron has much potential with more complex features in the the sandbox/ editor mode and if it gets a multiplayer (or LAN) possibility. Thanks for the game.

The level editor, with the banks for objects, made me remember Sleep is Death.

I'm not sure if voxatron is really suitable for that kind of gameplay, but it might be interesting thinking about allowing for a player to add stuff to the map realtime while other players play. Sort of like a Dungeon Master.

But that's just me adding to the many possibilities, not sure if that's the direction you want it to take.

Notch has made the assertion that a degree of piracy can be beneficial to an indie game. I'm not sure I agree with him (it's easy for him to say that piracy isn't bad when he's making zillions of dollars from Minecraft sales), but he does raise some good points about the separation of offline content (possible to pirate) and online content (exclusive to paying account holders). If such a scheme were introduced to Voxatron, exclusive online content could include things like user levels, possible multiplayer and co-op, cloud storage of stats/hi-scores etc.

The blog post I'm referring to:

I would love multiplayer. Both cooperative, like playing through the adventure together, and the sleep is death thing that Ferk mentioned. (I love sleep is death!!!) Cooperative wouldn't be unbalanced because yes, you do have twice the shooting capacity, but you have to split the items up so only half the items. Re-spawn should never occur. And the sleep is death one would be cool with arenas and stuff like that because they could throw out new monsters when you finish the old instead of going through tons of testing to see if you get the timing right. It could also be good with adventure maps, but you would need saved objects and a longer time limit than 30 seconds.

I hope this is good enough to get incorporated,

Alternatively yay899, you could make the co-op levels twice as hard but also double the item drops.

I would like to see a survival mechanic similar to the recent pixelly shoot-em-up Jamestown. If one person dies, their partner has to hold out on their own until the other respawns. That system made for some very exciting and tense moments and I loved it, -at the very least it could be included as an option for some sort of co-op arcade mode.

I was talking about unbalancing the preexisting single player levels but that would be a great formula for new levels designed for co-op. Also how many players do you think would be a good max? Two people is fun, but what if you want to play with more than one friend...

Would it be reasonably easy to add split-screen support ? After all, most of things would only have to be computed once, they you'd copy and invert them.

Why split screen ? These days, 24 inch monitors (landscape) are cheapier than 19 inch ones. Splitscreen would be nice because it would allow each player to have his own camera settings. It gets difficult act precisely when your character is in back row.

What about networking. Playing on one keyboard is really hard.

Multiplier would be awesome.

If you did peer to peer or user-hosted servers, you wouldn't have to fear paying for massive servers.

I sent the creator an email about this.
His response:

"Of course! I've already designed the game around coping with
multi-player but it will be one of the final additions to the engine.
For now I'm just focusing on user-made levels and getting the monster
editor done."

OOOOOH! So excited for multiplayer! Honestly, the game is really hard by yourself and would be amazing to play with others and friends. Very exciting! :D

If playing on one keyboard is hard, it's because of blocking keys (ghosting etc). Buying a gaming keyboard should help.

Otherwise... would it be possible to connect two keyboards ? Or too much hassle to implement ?

Speaking of multiplayer, considering how fast one robot can blow the scene up, I think it would run out of voxels ! Especially when a few minotaurs show up.

i just want multiplayer, it'd be awesome making a l4d kind of mode where you need to get somewhere without everyone dying.
