Wow, I was just now doing a similar thing (though much less cool) with just a simple brownian random orthogonal move (x+1, y-1 etc). You should add some particle interaction and submit it to the Chain Reaction Jam.

Cool particle shake.
This is my first particle engine so I am still just playing around with out really knowing what I am doing. :P
I try do some particle interaction next.
