You can use the (invisible) mouse to click the (invisible) editor mode buttons while you're still in Pico-8's command prompt, even though you can't see them, switching to an editor that way instead of hitting Esc.

The mouse is probably intended to be ignored in this state, making this a bug, right?

This even "works" when you're in a cart.
Definitely a bug.

Also, it seems that if music is playing while you're in a cart, clicking on the editor icons won't kill the music.
Probably the same with SFX.
Haven't figured out if there's a way to get back into a cart. I wanted to see if I could do live code editing.

Wa-heeey! That explains a few things.

fruckert -- that's interesting, so maybe if you click on an element while playing music/sfx it just stops automatically following the current pattern and note being played. That seems like it could be quite nice and the audio mixer is already set up to do stuff like that.

Well, exiting the editor to console mode stops the music, but then you can use the "resume" command to resume execution without music...

You have to manually restart the music yourself by punching in a command before you use the resume command, which then continues playback with the music you selected instead of the one that was originally playing, hehe. And then that music doesn't stop if you stop the game!

So weird. Zep, there's secretly some kind of internal flag that tells the Pico-8 that the Lua program started running via the "run" command, isn't there? ;) Then if that flag is set, returning to the command console from ANY mode will stop the music automatically and unset it. But the flag doesn't get set again by the "resume" command, making any new music continue playing if you stop it again, even if that music was started up by the running program rather than the user!
