Great little project!
I especially like the light green tone and the cutesy pac-man game graphics (top right) :)

Perfect palettes, and I'm happy to see blue skies! The screen on the upper left made me think of breaking out my Genesis and playing Gunstar Heroes, but then anything that looks potentially run-'n-gun makes me think that way.

Glad you like the colours so far -- I'm trying to find a single palette that can be used for everything. Kind of like EGA, but not so garish and tweaked for particular things common in retro games (sky colour, skin colour, pickups).

LEX500 is a programmable console with a built-in language like BASIC and a sprite/map editor. So the idea is to make it as simple and unified as possible so that if anyone wants to make games for it they can concentrate on hacking out a nice wee concept rather than fooling around with fancy graphics.

Portable... meaning like the GP32x or like something that works on multiple operating systems? Either way, good game concepts are wonderful things for game developers to be working on, and that's why I love you!

A couple parts on my old graphics card blew up a couple weeks ago. Now when I put in my comp-u-tron and boot up, I get some pretty amazing displays of colors across bizzare characters and patters spread across the screen. You can't do anything with it, but it's kinda pretty to look at, and it may help with figgering out color schemes for your palette! If you want it, I'll pack it and send it your way. (That is probably the furthest a broken graphics card will ever have traveled!)

I'm as good as colorblind when it comes to choosing /good/ colors, and I've never thought much about what color schemes would work well in a game, but googling produced this palette, which I kinda like:

Ah yep.. it's just software. The whole thing would run as a flash program so that people can make and share programs easily. Physically manufacturing a wee tv console is kind of a pipe dream of mine, so this is a way to partly scratch that itch.

I'm very tempted to take you up on the card offer, just because it's so absurd! I do like beautiful glitchy hardware, but I only have a mac mini anyway, so nothing to put it in.

Here's another nice 16 colour palette used for a collaboration where each artist draws a small piece of the final image. So beautiful! I'm going to go for something a little more saturated, but not quite as far as good old EGA:
